Ever since I began my healthy hair journey, I have been very skeptical of trying new trends or new products especially because it took me a long time to find products and a regimen that works for my hair. However, with the lockdown imposed on us, I could not easily access my favorite products and had to rely on natural, sometimes DIY products.
At the beginning of lockdown, Atara sent me a sample of their Shea butter and I was absolutely in love with the results! In this article, I will be sharing with you the benefits of Shea butter for your hair. I will also be doing a mini-review of Fro Buddy’s Shea butter.

WHAT IS SHEA BUTTER?
Shea butter is a fat that is taken from a nut on the Shea tree native to West Africa. It has an off-white or ivory colour and is very solid at warm temperature. Shea butter has a high concentration of fatty acids and vitamins. Combined with their easy-to-spread consistency, it makes an amazing product for smoothing, soothing, and conditioning your skin.
Shea butter can be used for various reason for both your hair and your skin. Here I will be telling you what some Shea Butter benefits are and whether or not I experienced those benefits with Fro Buddy’s Shea Butter.
1. Prevents breakage
Hair breakage can be the enemy of progress because it can take you a few steps back in your hair journey. Shea Butter, though, has a very high concentration of fatty acid that strengthens your hair and prevents it from breaking.

Ever since I started using Fro Buddy’s Shea butter, I did experience less hair fall out and my hair has since become stronger and even more dense than it was before I started using their Shea Butter.
2. Moisturizes hair
As we all know, natural hair is the driest type of hair there is out there. The natural sebum from the scalp has a hard time sliding down the shaft to the ends because of the bends or coils of our hair. Shea butter is frequently found in curly hair treatments because of its emolliating qualities.
I started using Fro Buddy’s Shea butter at the beginning of winter which was the best time for me to see whether the Shea butter works or not because natural hair gets very dry during winter. The consistency is very thick but after rubbing a small amount of it on my hands, it melted and penetrated my low porosity hair shaft very well.
If you have high porosity hair, the thick consistency from the Shea butter can moisturize your hair and help you retain the moisture very well. If you have low porosity hair like me, you can simply heat the Shea butter in the microwave so it can penetrate your hair shaft well.

There are other benefits of using Shea butter, such as the soothing of an itchy scalp and protection from heat. I can’t necessarily speak much on these because with regards to Fro buddy’s Shea butter because I take care of my scalp and hardly get an itchy scalp and with the lock-down regulations, I am always indoors.
If you have tried Shea butter for hair or skin please share what your results were in the comments. If you would like to order some Shea butter from Fro buddy please contact them on their social media.
